Felker Sweeps Nonwing Portion of Race 4 Life Event at Cedar Lake Arena

Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (Oct. 28, 2014) – Andrew Felker continued to add his name to the record book as he swept the nonwing races of the Race 4 Life event at Cedar Lake Arena last weekend.

Felker, who was driving for Hans Lein, scored two victories to give him six total during the marquee micro sprint event.

“Overall it was a good weekend,” he said. “It definitely made the trip well worth it. The car was really good both nights. It was nice to team up with Hans and pick up a couple of wins.”

The weekend kicked off on Friday with Felker advancing from ninth to fourth place in his heat race. That made him third in overall points, which lined him up on the inside of the second row for the 30-lap feature.

“The track was on the top all weekend,” he said. “Starting on the inside was detrimental. We fell to fourth on the start. We had a restart and I got up to third. I ran there for a little bit and then got up to second. With about 10 laps to go we had a restart and I slid the leader entering turn one.”

Felker took advantage of the double-file restart to power into the top spot. He held onto the lead for the remainder of the race to earn his fourth victory of the season. It also locked him into the dash on Saturday.

The winged portion of Friday didn’t go as well. Felker advanced from eighth to fourth in his heat race, but he decided to pull into the pits early in the main event as the track deteriorated and racing was getting wild.

“I pulled in to save our stuff,” he said. “They had a caution a couple laps later because some of the cars I was battling went flipping down the frontstretch so it made me look smart that I pulled in.”

Saturday started with Felker finishing sixth in the nonwing dash, which lined him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“I got up top and slowly picked them off,” he said. “I tried to slide (Frank) Flud with about 16 or 17 laps to go and he drove around us. Then we had a restart with about 10 to go and I was able to slide him for the lead. Frank kept showing me his nose the last five laps. We caught traffic the last lap and I rolled the top in turns one and two and slid myself in turns three and four to block him from sliding me and luckily we held him off.”

Felker’s triumph marked his fourth win in the last six weeks.

Unfortunately, the winged action started on a bad note on Saturday. The ignition box went out prior to the green flag on his heat race, which didn’t allow Felker to start the race. That lined him up last in the B Main.

Felker overcame the early issue and he maneuvered from 14th to fourth in the consolation race. He then he advanced from 24th to fourth in the main event.

“The car was really good,” he said. “I went from 24th to 12th in the first four laps. We were within the top six within 10 laps into the race. At that point the track started to lock down rubber so I had to hop in line. I got up to fourth with about 10 to go and I wore out my tires by that point. I felt like we had more speed than the results showed on the winged side.”

Felker’s fourth-place finish was his 14th top five of the season.
