Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 28, 2014) – Channin Tankersley is eager to move on from the 27th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals Presented by Hoosier Tires.

Tankersley was caught up in a wild crash, which ruined his chances at making the $15,000-to-win Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour feature for the second straight season at I-30 Speedway.

“It’s one of those things I wish to forget and never think about again,” he said. “We were getting better as the races went on up until that point.”

Tankersley, who was driving for Bruce Griffith, opened the event on Wednesday with the Short Track Nationals Open. He advanced from eighth to sixth place in his heat race, but was caught up in an opening-lap crash during the B Main.

“We put a new car together and got it to where we liked it before the crash,” he said.

Evidently, that was a sign of things to come.

Tankersley kicked off his preliminary night on Thursday by winning his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That put him third in overall points entering a qualifier, which he started on the outside of the third row.

Unfortunately, two cars collided in front of Tankersley in turn two. He ran into a car and flipped off the side of the track.

“We got caught up in somebody else’s mess,” he said. “We had passed one car and might have got another. We would have been in a decent position to put us in the front couple of rows in the A Main. It broke the car and ruined the rest of the weekend.”

That ended his night and put him behind the eight ball in points heading into Saturday’s finale.

Tankersley and his team put the car back together and finished second in a last chance qualifier on Saturday. He then placed ninth in a B Main.

“We were able to piece it together, but it wasn’t the same,” he said. “The car was bent up. We weren’t getting our hopes up, but we thought what we did was ok.”

Tankersley will build another new car to tackle the final four Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour events of the season. He will be off this weekend before racing Nov. 7 at El Paso Speedway Park in El Paso, Texas, and Nov. 8 at Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M., for the Battle at the Border.
