Wampler Posts Sixth-Place Result in Return to Red River Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Sept. 21, 2014) – Cody Wampler set the foundation for a solid finish to the season with a top 10 last Friday.

Wampler, who finally ironed out a carburetor issue that had plagued his team throughout the summer, finished sixth at Red River Speedway. It marked his seventh top 10 of the season.

“We got our carburetor issues fixed and it’s running great now,” he said. “Now we can make some headway on the setup and learn some stuff. I’m pretty excited from that standpoint. We can really focus on getting the car where it needs to be and making the right adjustments. I’m really optimistic for the last couple of races.”

Wampler kicked off last Friday’s champ sprints race by finishing second in his heat race.

“We led the first few laps,” he said. “We had Robert Sellers, who has dominated down there, in our heat. I think him or his son has won every night there but one. He got by me coming out of turn four and we ended up running second. I felt like we were pretty good.”

That earned Wampler a spot in the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 2 in the random draw to line up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“They had a lot of cars in a couple of other classes,” he said. “The track held up pretty good for a while. Our car just wasn’t near tight enough. I tried a couple of different things. I tried a bigger left rear tire than we’ve ran there. I tend to have a tendency to be too tight getting in to the corners. I had done some things to keep the car free. The track slicked off and I was too free. I couldn’t get into the corner hard enough on the top to carry the momentum.”

Wampler dropped to fourth place on the opening lap and he lost a couple of additional positions throughout the main event to finish sixth.

He will take this weekend off before heading to Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., on Oct. 3-4 for the Winter Nationals.

“I’m pretty excited about getting back to Lawton,” he said. “That should be a good weekend.”
