Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (June 17, 2014) – Joe Trenca broke through with his first top 10 of the season at Selinsgrove Speedway last Saturday during the Patriot Sprint Tour race.

In three previous races at the big track this season Trenca had been unable to crack the top 15 prior to Saturday’s ninth-place result.

“Running at that track definitely has helped us,” he said. “I’m starting to really, really like the track. I definitely feel a lot more comfortable there. We have some momentum rolling and we hope to carry it over to this weekend.”

Trenca opened the competition last Saturday by qualifying 13th quickest, which earned him a spot on the pole of a heat race.

“I was happy with qualifying because I was quicker than the previous week’s lap, but I wasn’t sure what I could do to get much faster,” he said. “I got a good jump in the heat race and didn’t look back there.”

Trenca led the entire heat race for his third heat victory of the season. It sent him to the feature redraw as one of the top-three finishers from each of the three heats. Unfortunately, the second-highest number – eight – was pulled for Trenca, who started the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

“On the initial start we were up to fifth or sixth and then the middle blew off really quick,” he said. “We were riding in seventh most of the race. We had a red flag later on and the tires got cold. It took me a few laps to get going again.”

Trenca continued to battle just outside the top five before a restart with two laps remaining.

“I went down into turns one and two and lost all the air on my wings and two cars got by me,” he said.

Trenca pulled off a slide job to pick up one position on the final lap en route to the ninth-place result, which marked his fourth top 10 of the season.

“I was really happy with it,” he said. “It was probably one of the hardest races I’ve driven all year. Running well with the locals is good, too, because those guys are so good there. It was a big confidence booster.”

Trenca will make his season debut at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, N.Y., this Saturday with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.

“We’ve been running on a lot of bigger, faster tracks this season,” he said. “I’m hoping that’ll work in my favor this weekend.”
