Inside Line Promotions – GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (June 15, 2014) – John Binz garnered his fourth top five in the last five races as he nearly captured his first micro sprint victory of the season last Friday at Mountain Creek Speedway.

The event opened with Binz maneuvering from fifth to third place during his heat race.

“I ended up getting to third on the bottom of turn three,” he said. “I drove it in there hard. It was one lane so you had to get what you could on the start.”

That lined Binz up on the outside of the fifth row for the 20-lap main event.

“I was running fifth off of turn two on the opening lap and I was up to second on the second lap,” he said. “All those guys went to the bottom and middle of the race track and I railed around them on the outside. I was right there on the leader for a while.”

While Binz competed for the lead for the first half dozen laps, he dropped a position before a red flag stopped the field with a handful of laps remaining.

“We had a red and the motor was extremely hot,” he said. “It was puking water out of it. After that the motor was just too hot. It wouldn’t take off.”

After restarting third, Binz was able to maintain his position before losing a spot on the final lap.

“I was wide open and probably 20 to 30 horsepower down,” he said. “Before the red we were just as fast as those guys. After the red it was just hold on.”

Binz ended with a fourth-place result, which marked his fourth top five of the season and his third top five in as many races at Mountain Creek Speedway this year.
