Freeman Fights Engine Issues During Doubleheader at Gulf Coast Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – ALVIN, Texas (May 26, 2014) – Cody Freeman battled a fading engine throughout the micro sprint doubleheader at Gulf Coast Speedway last weekend.

Freeman started second and finished third in both of his heat races on each Saturday and Sunday before ending the weekend by pulling off the track after taking the green flag in Sunday’s main event.

“We suspected we had an issue the last couple of weeks,” he said. “We were losing power and every lap was slower and slower.”

Without its spare engine, the team swapped a variety of parts throughout the weekend trying to diagnose a problem before deciding to play it safe in the main event on Sunday.

Freeman took the green flag and pulled off the track on the opening lap. He was credited with an eighth-place finish.

The bright point of the weekend was the main event on Saturday, when Freeman recorded his fifth podium finish of the season.

“We had three cars in front of us get into each other and we were able to avoid it,” he said. “The car felt great. But we started noticing Saturday that something wasn’t right with the engine. The tone of it on the track changed like it was fading.”

Freeman maneuvered to a third-place result.

The team will use the backup engine this weekend when Freeman makes his inaugural visit to Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie, Texas, on Friday and his season debut at Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas, on Saturday.
