Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (May 21, 2014) – Channin Tankersley will take his 44-point lead in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings into a Texas tripleheader this weekend.
“Realistically our goal is top two or three every night,” he said. “My personal goal is that I want to get a win this weekend. If I can’t do that I’m shooting for top threes every night.”
Tankersley will kick off the weekend on Friday by making his second visit to Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige. He crashed on the opening lap of last year’s inaugural event and was unable to finish the feature.
“It didn’t go well at all,” he said. “We ran mediocre in the heat race and made a quarter of a lap in the A Main. They started all wiping out in front of me and I got into it.”
On Saturday, Tankersley and the ASCS Gulf South Region will debut at Shady Oaks Speedway in Goliad.
“I’ve heard it has long straightaways and tight corners and is high banked,” he said. “As long as the track is racy I’m not too picky.”
The weekend concludes on Sunday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont. Tankersley has finished seventh and fourth, respectively, at the bullring this season.
“We usually run pretty well there,” he said. “We’ve just got to get it together at the first part of the night.”
Tankersley has earned a top 10 in seven of the eight ASCS races since his last win at the track in 2011, including a string of six consecutive top 10s.
