Graves Motorsports Eyes Engine Strength Before ASCS Lone Star Doubleheader

Inside Line Promotions – LUBBOCK, Texas (April 14, 2014) – Graves Motorsports made a lot of progress from the first race of the season to the second.

Driver Kolt Walker anticipates that the same kind of improvement will be showcased when the team returns to the track on April 25 at Lubbock Speedway in Lubbock, Texas, and on April 26 at Abilene Speedway in Abilene, Texas, for the next two nights of racing with the ASCS Lone Star Region.

“We need to be consistent,” he said. “We need to be in the top five every night. As far as what we’re doing, I feel like we have a handle on it. It’s just the stuff that goes wrong we need to be on top of.”

The team fixed a steering issue between the first two races and is now focusing on repairing the primary engine, which is currently at the engine builder.

“We’re trying to get our engine program where it needs to be,” Walker said. “We’ve been fighting it since August of last year and we’re trying some things to get it back to where it used to be.”

The team used a spare engine during its second race of the season and will likely be in the same situation for the ASCS Lone Star Region doubleheader in a week and a half. With the goal set toward winning the championship, Walker said the team needs to begin peaking sooner than later.

“There’s no throw-away races in there,” he said. “As far as our performance, I think we were good. We just need to make the right calls at whatever track we’re at. We can’t really afford to experiment. Hopefully we make the right calls at the right time.”
