Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 24, 2014) – Travis Rilat got off to a rough start last Friday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
Competing in his first race in the United States this season, Rilat was caught up in a crash during the opening lap of his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race at the half-mile track.
“We were able to get around a few of them on the start,” said Rilat, who started sixth in his heat race. “Entering turn one we should have been running third. Whoever started on the pole backed out of the gas and James Mosher was right behind her. I was on the high side and Mosher ran into her and he came across the track.”
The crash damaged the top and nose wings as well as the front axle, radius rods, wheels and tires to name a few for Rilat, who was able to restart at the back. Despite the smashed race car, Rilat ended with a sixth-place result that sent him to a B Main.
After starting the consolation race on the outside of the fourth row, Rilat maneuvered to fourth place before a restart near the midpoint of the race.
“I was able to make a pass on the restart for third,” he said. “We didn’t have the car good enough to hold it on the bottom. We should have made the show.”
Rilat drove into a transfer position, but was unable to hang on and he ended with a fourth-place finish – one spot out of making the main event.
Saturday’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour race at Devil’s Bowl Speedway was postponed a week because of the threat of weather. Rilat will return to the track this Saturday.
