Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 24, 2014) – Sam Hafertepe Jr. scored his best Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour result of the season last Friday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Hafertepe Jr. charged from seventh to second place in his heat race and rallied for a sixth-place finish in the feature at the fast half-mile track, which marked his second top 10 of the season.

“We were really good,” he said. “I felt like we were probably the fastest car there. I’ve made a lot of laps there. We’ve got a good handle there.”

Despite opening the night with a high number during the pill draw, which started him at the back of his heat race, Hafertepe Jr. rallied to pass five cars in the eight-lap heat.

“Everybody kind of missed the bottom on the start,” he said. “We were running fourth coming out of turn two on the opening lap. We were able to maneuver and come off the bottom really good. A lot of guys couldn’t hit the bottom as well as we could.”

Hafertepe Jr. was tied for the most points following the heat races, which locked him into the feature redraw.

“We drew the wrong number,” Hafertepe Jr. said after pulling the No. 8, which started him on the outside of the fourth row for the 25-lap feature.

“Most guys were running tight to the bottom and you couldn’t pass. We got a decent start, but kind of rode in line around the bottom. You had some pretty good cars out in front. Those guys aren’t going to mess up a lot.”

Hafertepe Jr. picked up a pair of positions to post a sixth-place result, which advanced him to third place in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings. If he can find help, Hafertepe Jr. would like to compete for the series championship this season.

“That’s kind of my plan right,” he said. “Going forward, I don’t know if we can do that or not. I hope we can. If I’m going to follow a series, I’m going to need a fuel sponsor or somebody to throw in some money here or there.”

Hafertepe Jr. will return to Devil’s Bowl Speedway this Saturday to conclude the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event, which had its final day postponed a week because of the threat of weather.
