Graves Motorsports Fights Early Steering Issue at Devil’s Bowl Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 24, 2014) – An old problem reared its head for Graves Motorsports during the season opener last Friday.

Driver Kolt Walker and the team faced a steering issue early in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and ASCS Lone Star Region event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

“We had some steering gear issues,” he said. “We were all over the race track chasing it. I’ve never been scared in a race car, but I might have been scared on Friday night.”

After starting on the outside of the second row in his heat race, Walker held on for a sixth-place result.

“It’s like the front end is driving itself and you’re along for the ride,” he said. “There’s no reason why we shouldn’t have been up there racing for first or second place. We changed the steering gear between the heat race and B Main.”

After the change, Walker started on the outside of the fifth row of a B Main, which transferred the top three to the main event.

“It was like night and day as far as the handling,” he said. “The car itself was great all night.”

Walker advanced from 10th to a fifth-place result to narrowly miss transferring to the main event.

“I think we could have got to third or fourth, but I overshot a turn,” he said. “It was one of those deals where I needed to slow down to go faster. We loaded up in one piece, so that’s good. We learned quite a bit, so that’s good.”

Saturday’s event at the half-mile track was postponed a week because of the threat of weather. Graves Motorsports will return to Devil’s Bowl Speedway this Saturday for the conclusion of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and ASCS Lone Star Region race.
