Inside Line Promotions – TUCSON, Ariz. (March 11, 2014) – Cole Wood is excited to return to the midget ranks in a week and a half following a frustrating showing with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series last week.

After racing with the premier sprint car series last Wednesday and Thursday at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas in Las Vegas and on Saturday at Tucson International Raceway, Wood’s focus now shifts to the Turnpike Challenge March 22-23 with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla.

“We are looking forward to the midget races coming up,” he said. “We were excited to finally run with the Outlaws, but weren’t happy with the outcome.”

In his first 410ci sprint car starts of the season, Wood was involved in a pair of crashes last week.

“It started with qualifying,” he said. “That put us behind from the start and then we ran into some tough luck.”

On Wednesday at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas, Wood timed in 24th quickest and placed eighth in his heat race. After starting sixth in the Last Chance Showdown, he finished 11th on a tricky track. However, as he exited turn two after taking the checkered flag Wood slid into the wall and flipped.

On Thursday, he qualified 30th quickest at the half-mile track and ended ninth in his heat race. Wood then crossed the finish line 12th in the Last Chance Showdown.

“We were happy to head to another track and felt confident going into the race at Tucson,” he said.

Wood timed in 22nd quickest, but was caught up in a violent flip during the opening lap of his heat race. He was unable to finish the remainder of the event.

“I’m not really sure what happened, but it’s frustrating to not get many laps and end up in a crash,” he said. “Other than a hot-lap session and qualifying, we didn’t get to race so that hurts with us learning what to do for the next time we race there.”

Wood is scheduled to take this weekend off as the team is moving into the Brian Brown Racing shop in Missouri.
