Inside Line Promotions – AUBURN, Calif. (Nov. 18, 2013) – As Cole Wood recalls the highlights of this past season he doesn’t bring up race results.

“I probably learned more this season than I would in three seasons running local stuff,” he said. “I feel like I learned more about driving on a dry slick track this year. I also learned a bunch of service, maintenance and things that I can tell the crew that might help us in the next race.”

Wood scored four podium finishes during the season. He also captured the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Rookie of the Year Award after placing ninth in the championship standings during his first season on the premier 360ci sprint car series.

“I think we had a really good year, especially for our first year on the tour,” he said. “I feel like we went in and didn’t tear a bunch of stuff up. I also soaked up a ton of information.

“There was a MOWA race in West Burlington, Iowa, where Brian (Brown) really taught me to run the brake on a slick track. Those are the things I need to remember for my racing career.”

Next season will mark Wood’s third year in a full-size sprint car and his team will share a shop with Brown in Grain Valley, Mo. Wood’s team won’t compete for points with any series or track and will aim for nearly 100 races on the schedule.

“We are going to pick and choose, run 360 and 410 stuff,” he said. “I’d say next year we’re probably going to get 90 races, maybe 100. We’re just going to sit down and pick out the big shows that we want to make. We’re going to pencil those into the schedule first and after that just go with it. We’re going to try to do some midget stuff, too.”

Wood will begin next season at the premier midget event – the 28th annual Chili Bowl Nationals, which is held Jan. 14-18 at the Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Okla.

“We’re working on getting the midgets ready for the Chili Bowl,” he said. “I’m excited to head out there and kick off next season.

“Also, as this season wraps up and we look into next season, I want to thank and recognize all of the partners who have helped Cole Wood Racing. Thank you for the support and we look forward to continuing the success next season.”
