Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 29, 2013) – Jack Dover didn’t end his season on the note that he hoped.

A year after winning a preliminary night at the prestigious Short Track Nationals, Dover was unable to advance to the main event last weekend at the 26th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals Presented by Hoosier Tires at I-30 Speedway.

“Short Track Nationals wasn’t very good to us,” he said. “I wish our finish at Short Track Nationals would have been better, but looking at the big picture we had an awesome year.”

Dover, who scored 15 victories in 45 races this season, opened this year’s Short Track Nationals by winning his heat race on Friday.

“The heat race was what screwed our whole weekend,” he said. “We were supposed to start third and the polesitter fell off before the race. So we didn’t get the passing points we needed, which would have helped us the whole weekend.”

Dover was credited with winning the race from the pole and he then finished his qualifier in the position he started – fifth. Dover garnered the runner-up position in a B Main to transfer to the feature, which he finished 16th after starting on the inside of the 10th row.

“We didn’t pass many cars, but nobody else did either,” he said. “It was just a hard event this year. We didn’t get the breaks we needed and just the competition is stout. There wasn’t any slouches in any of those races.”

Dover returned to the quarter-mile track on Saturday for the $15,000-to-win event. After a rain delay, he was slated to start fourth in a C Main, which transferred the top four to a B Main. However, Dover’s car got tight and pushed up the track on the opening lap.

“The rain came down and made the track so fast nobody really passed,” he said. “It was heavy and I knew we were going to be screwed because we didn’t have a little left rear to make stagger. I fell back to sixth and got back up to fifth and was right there for fourth for a little bit and he pulled away.”

Dover finished fifth in the C Main to end his weekend and season.

“It just shows how much luck you need at that event,” he said. “We went from winning the qualifying night (last year) to not even making the feature this year. It sucks, but we had an awesome season. I can’t let that one race get me down.”
