Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (Nov. 6, 2013) – Dominic Scelzi wrapped up the winged portion of his season last Saturday with a nice discovery.

During the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series season finale Tribute to Gary Patterson at Stockton 99 Dirt Track, Scelzi and his team found the source of an issue that has plagued the team.

“Our shock mounts are in the wrong spot,” he said. “Finally we were able to figure out the problem. Now that we know what the problem is hopefully we can start next year with a better grip on what we can do.”

Scelzi began the night by timing in 14th quickest during qualifying, which started him on the pole of a heat race.

“I spun my tires in the grease on the start,” he said. “I fell back to third and I hit a hole on the second lap in turn two and fell back to fourth and that’s where I finished.”

Scelzi’s fourth-place result locked him into the feature, which he started on the outside of the seventh row.

“On the start I got in there and Tim Kaeding, who was a row in front of me, jumped the cushion,” he said. “I was going to run into the back of him and I got over the cushion and fell back to last. Then we drove up to 13th.”

After the opening-lap issue, Scelzi regained nearly a dozen positions to place 13th. It marked his 28th top-15 result of the season.

“I kinda just held on,” he said. “We struggled it seemed like all night to get a handle on the setup. I’m pretty happy with it even though I didn’t run as good as I wanted to. Just knowing that we found out what our problem has been has made me feel a lot better.”

He ended ninth in the King of the West championship standings.

Scelzi will take this weekend off before his next opportunity, which is driving a nonwing sprint car on Nov. 16 at Ventura Raceway in Ventura, Calif., for Cory Kruseman.
