Inside Line Promotions – BURLINGTON, Wash. (June 22, 2026) – Trey Starks endured multiple bouts of misfortune last weekend during the 54th annual Jim Raper Memorial Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway.

“We had something go amiss each day,” he said. “I felt we did a good job of digging our way out of the hole as best as we could just to get hit with another event that set us back.”

Starks qualified fourth quickest in his group to kick off the first preliminary night last Thursday. Unfortunately, a DNF in a heat race due to an ignition failure relegated him to the B Main. Starks finished fourth to secure the final transfer position into the main event. He closed the night by hustling from 24th to 13th – tied for the most positions gained.

“We had to dig ourselves out of the B Main,” he said. “We worked and fought our way to 13th. We had a really good car, but it’s really difficult coming through the field. I felt we did a good job of getting as many points as we could given the circumstances.”

Starks set quick time in his qualifying group on Friday and he gained a position in a heat race to finish fifth. With a 16-car inversion, he lined up on the outside of the seventh row in the main event. Starks climbed into the top 10 before a mechanical failure ended his night early.

“We went into the feature tied for high points on the night,” he said. “We had an engine issue with about eight laps to go. It was another night that looked promising as a good points night before another DNF put us back in a hole.”

On Saturday, Starks advanced a position during a heat race to garner the ninth starting position in the main event.

“All things considered, we were still in a position to set ourselves up well for the feature,” he said. “We ran third in Saturday’s heat race for a while and had a caution halfway. I made an aggressive move on a restart to get around Rico (Abreu) and that advanced us two rows in starting positions. After everything that happened, we weren’t looking too bad starting ninth.”

Unfortunately, Starks was caught up in an early multiple-car incident on the frontstretch that damaged his race car. He restarted the race, but eventually pulled with a 21st-place result.

“Someone had an issue a couple of cars ahead and then the car in front of me got into that car,” he said. “I turned right to avoid and so did another car so we made contact. Another car ran into us from behind, giving us damage that we just couldn’t overcome. I ran a few laps, but once I went a lap down I pulled into the infield.”

Starks is scheduled to return to Skagit Speedway this Saturday for a 360ci winged sprint car event. He currently leads the championship standings by 66 points.
