Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (June 17, 2026) – Michael “Buddy” Kofoid captured the Hefty Seed Huset’s Hustle preliminary night on Wednesday, earning his fourth consecutive World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series victory at Huset’s Speedway.
Kofoid took the lead on Lap 15 and pulled away in the final laps to win by 1.955 seconds, making him the high-points driver entering Thursday’s $150,000-to-win Hefty Seed Huset’s Hustle finale – the first of two six-figure paydays at the high-banked track this week during the 5th annual BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals.
The impressive performance for Kofoid tied him with Steve Kinser for career wins at Huset’s Speedway with seven triumphs, which ranks third best. The strong showing on Wednesday also matched Mark Kinser for the most World of Outlaws wins in a row at the track.
“I guess if you do that you’re doing something right,” Kofoid said. “Steve was my first hero and is still my hero to this day. I got to start next to him one time in a heat race and he smoked me and that was about it.”
Christopher Thram led the first 14 laps of the 35-lap, $20,000-to-win main event. A pair of cautions and a red flag within the first three laps were the only stoppages as the final 33 laps ran non-stop. Kofoid moved to second on Lap 14 and drove around Thram in turns three and four on the ensuing circuit while the drivers duked it out in traffic.
Sheldon Haudenschild used a power move to advance from fourth to second place on Lap 19 and he closed to within two tenths of a second of Kofoid with eight laps to go.
“I wanted to stay patient, but at the same time I didn’t really want to move off the top,” Kofoid said. “I felt a little too free just to run the bottom. I just kinda just started running it harder and trying to be more aggressive to it. I saw him on the screen and could hear him. Traffic was tough. The bottom was just good enough you couldn’t clear them. It got kind of hairy one time.”
Kofoid promptly put together a trio of strong laps to rebuild the lead to nearly one and a half seconds before slowly increasing his lead throughout the final five circuits.
“I’m happy with the night,” Haudenschild said after the runner-up result. “Buddy is really good here. I feel like honestly, it’s me and Buddy and every once in a while we’ll get one of these other guys running with us. I’m happy with our car and the whole night.”
Garet Williamson rounded out the podium.
“That’s the best I’ve ever felt here,” he said. “We were really good. All in all, I think we had a really maneuverable race car.”
Austin McCarl finished fourth and Cole Macedo recorded a fifth-place result.
Justin Henderson and Daison Pursley were quickest in their qualifying groups before Jacob Hughes, Kerry Madsen, Giovanni Scelzi, Kofoid, Sam Henderson and Dayne Kingshott won the heat races. Gage Pulkrabek topped the C Main and Scelzi claimed the Last Chance Showdown.
Kofoid, Haudenschild, Williamson, McCarl, Macedo and Kaleb Johnson rank first through sixth, respectively, in event points. That garners the pole position of a heat race for each of them on Thursday to kick off the $150,000-to-win Hefty Seed Huset’s Hustle finale.
Follow the Huset’s Speedway and World of Outlaws social media channels for the complete preliminary night points rundown as well as the heat race lineups. The main gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps slated for 7:30 p.m.
The ensuing two days feature the $300,000-to-win BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals on Friday and Saturday.
