Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (May 25, 2026) – Michael “Buddy” Kofoid and Trevor Tesch scored victories on Monday night at Huset’s Speedway during the Stars & Stripes Salute presented by Folkens Brothers Trucking.
Kofoid, who started seventh, took the lead on Lap 13 and pulled away to win by 3.766 seconds during the $20,000-to-win World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event. He capped the dominating performance by walking onto the frontstretch and delivering a bow to the crowd in honor of the well-known celebration by Kyle Busch – the NASCAR star who unexpectedly passed away last Thursday.
“I feel like our car just continues to get better and better as the race goes on,” Kofoid said. “I kind of gravitated toward the bottom those first few laps. I could see the top come in way quicker than I actually anticipated. I knew I needed to get up right away. Once I got settled into third just knew I needed to make laps, just consistent laps. My car is notoriously good in dirty air and relatively unaffected. I didn’t want yellows; I just wanted traffic. I knew I could race really well in it. The opportunity arose.”
The performance marked Kofoid’s third straight triumph at the track and his sixth career World of Outlaws win at Huset’s Speedway. Those half-dozen victories are in the last 17 World of Outlaws races dating back to June 23, 2022. Kofoid has captured four of the last five and five of the last seven World of Outlaws races at the high-banked oval.
“I get excited to race no matter what,” he said. “Coming to a place like this I feel like just elevates my love for sprint car racing. It’s hard to not be excited when you have a car that drives that nice and that can come I feel from most anywhere and have a chance. As a driver, you can’t ask for anything else.”
The main event was slowed for a caution on Lap 3 followed by a red flag during the restart. The final 33 laps of the race were non-stop with Kofoid pulling away from a great battle behind him between Sheldon Haudenschild and Aaron Reutzel for the runner-up position.
“Buddy did a great job in traffic and me and Reutzel struggled once we got to the back of the field there,” Haudenschild said after a second-place outing. “We had a great car all night. Fast all night. Not much more you could ask for. I needed to get through traffic a little better.”
Reutzel, who led the first 12 laps, rounded out the podium.
“I was just way too good early,” he said. “I knew we were in trouble the first five laps. I knew once the fuel load came off and the track widened out we were going to be in trouble. That’s exactly what happened. Sheldon and Buddy, they were so good hitting the bottom and that’s what I couldn’t do. All in all, a good night. When you’re complaining about running third I guess you’re doing pretty good.”
World of Outlaws points leader David Gravel used a late-race charge to climb to fourth and Donny Schatz finished fifth.
Haudenschild set quick time during qualifying before he, Bill Balog, Schatz and Gravel won the heat races. Schatz topped the dash and Emerson Axsom picked up the Last Chance Showdown win.
Tesch led all 18 laps of the Nordstrom’s Automotive Late Model Street Stocks main event to garner his second career victory at Huset’s Speedway.
“I just had to hit the marks,” he said. “It was hard, but we did it.”
A trio of cautions, including one red flag, bunched the field together for multiple restarts, but Tesch was efficient throughout the race. Ryan DeBoer was the runner up with J.J. Zebell placing third, Garet Deboer fourth and Craig Hanisch fifth.
Tesch and Ron Howe were the heat race winners.
The next event at Huset’s Speedway is Sunday for Kibble Equipment Night featuring the Cressman Sanitation 410 Outlaw Sprint Cars, the Heser Auto & Detailing RaceSaver Sprint Car Series and the Nordstrom’s Automotive Late Model Street Stocks.
