Inside Line Promotions – HATTIESBURG, Miss. (March 3, 2026) – A second-place result highlighted the first handful of races of the new partnership between Jordon Mallett and car owner A.G. Rains.
The strong showing came on the heels of a challenging start to the season as the team ventured to Florida for a USCS Series doubleheader at Southern Raceway in Milton Feb. 20-21. Mallett placed fifth in a heat race before a DNF ended his season opener early.
“We wanted to get the season started early so we could get ourselves on the same page and start building a notebook,” he said. “We faced a couple of mechanical gremlins, but we had good speed right away.
“Milton was up and down. We chased mechanical gremlins all night on the Friday night and it resulted in a DNF. We had speed in the car, but we needed to iron out a few kinks. We regrouped for Saturday and we were a lot better off. However, something didn’t feel right on the car as the night progressed.”
Mallett advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race and from ninth to sixth place in the main event.
“We had a good initial start and got ourselves into fourth or fifth,” he said. “Something was off. The car wouldn’t stay underneath me coming through some of the chop. We spun ourselves out trying to work through that on about Lap 7. We went back to the tail and mounted a charge back to sixth. I felt we had a lot better race car than where we finished. We found out later we had a shock that went bad. It was a relief to find something definitive to pinpoint what had happened.”
The action shifted to Hattiesburg Speedway, which hosted a USCS Series doubleheader last weekend. On Friday, Mallett maneuvered from third to second in a heat race to advance into the dash. A fifth-place finish in the dash lined him up on the inside of the third row in the A Main.
“A.G. had a really well-prepared car for us and we were really good the first night,” he said. “The track was uncharacteristically fast and hooked up and narrow. We became really good when we got into traffic and it got really technical. The car came to life then. The leader was good on the short runs, but not as good as us in traffic. We were right there, but wound up with a late-race red flag. After that, those last five or six laps, we didn’t get back into traffic and that’s what we needed. All in all, it was a super solid night and we made tremendous gains on me being comfortable in the race car and being able to contend for a win.”
The second-place result was Mallett’s best run since May 2025. It was also his earliest podium outing of a season since 2018, when he placed second on Feb. 24.
“We were able to take that same comfort level and roll it into Saturday,” he said. “We had a lot of speed. We missed it a little in the dash and then coming around after the parade lap of the feature to line up I felt a shake so I pulled into the infield. I felt it was a terminal shake so I had to disappointedly watch the feature from the infield. Luckily, we made the right call and didn’t cause any further damage.”
After finishing second in a heat race and sixth in the dash, Mallett’s night ended early with a DNS in the feature.
The team is taking this weekend off before returning to competition with the USCS Series March 13 at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, Ala., and March 14 at Xtreme Speedway in Moulton, Ala.
