Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (June 2, 2025) – Kaleb Johnson extended his lead in the Huset’s Speedway championship standings on Sunday night.
Although the Team DGRD driver didn’t win at the high-banked oval for the first time this season, he was strong throughout a program that welcomed multiple World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series drivers.
“I was really pumped going into it knowing we’d have more really good cars there,” Johnson said. “We showed we had really good speed.”
Johnson set quick time during his group’s qualifying session before he advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race. Unfortunately, he drew the second-highest number – seven – during the feature redraw to line up seventh.
“Track position was critical for the feature,” he said. “I wanted a long green-flag run. We weren’t as good on the short runs. I got up to fourth, but fell to fifth at the end. However, a top five out of that, we were pleased with it.”
Johnson now leads the championship standings by 31 points.
The team also competed on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. Johnson was 11th quickest in his group during time trials. He then won a heat race before maneuvering from 13th to seventh in the main event.
“We went out early for qualifying and didn’t time in that well,” he said. “I felt really good in the heat race. We started 13th in the feature and I wasn’t that great at the start of the race. After a few cautions, I got rolling well and was able to pick off cars. Honestly, a few more laps and I think I would have had a top five. The positive thing is we can race really well. We just need to improve on qualifying.”
Johnson ranks sixth in the championship standings – only 21 points out of the top five.
There are two races on his schedule this week with the FENDT Showdown featuring the World of Outlaws on Wednesday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., before he returns to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday. Johnson has a previous engagement that will keep him from competing on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
“I’ve had speed at Jackson, but haven’t done that well when the Outlaws come into town,” he said. “I have a lot more confidence going into this one. Hopefully we can put down a good qualifying effort and be in contention for a top 10 at the end of the night.”
