Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Oct. 2, 2023) – Derek Hagar recorded a runner-up result last Saturday during the Fall Nationals hosted by Riverside International Speedway.

The night began with Hagar finishing where he started – second – in a heat race.

“We ran second to Sammy (Swindell) in the heat race,” he said. “We started fourth in the feature and ran third most of the race until the last lap when I got around Sammy coming to the line to run second.

“The track stayed pretty locked down and one lane so to be able to pass any cars was good. Traffic was terrible, just trying to figure out where people were going to go. That’s what got us set up to get by Sammy. He followed three cars on the bottom and I was able to rip the top to get enough speed to nip him at the line.”

The podium performance marked Hagar’s 23rd top five in 26 sprint car starts this season.

Next up will be three nights at Texarkana 67 Speedway in Texarkana, Ark. Thursday features the Ralph Henson Memorial with the ASCS Mid-South Region before the ASCS National Tour’s 36th annual COMP CAMS Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier runs Friday and Saturday. Both events used to be held at I-30 Speedway, which shut down following last season.

“It’s pretty much a new track for everybody so we’re all on the same playing field,” he said. “I feel we have a good chance to have a good showing and hopefully we can click off a couple of wins. We won that ASCS show last year and I don’t think another sprint car race has been there since then.”

Hagar has earned the most Ralph Henson Memorial victories with wins coming in 2016, 2018 and 2021. He’s posted a top-10 result during the finale of each of the last four Short Track Nationals.
