Williamson Makes Dash During Debut Trip to World of Outlaws World Finals

Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 7, 2022) – Although the results were hampered by misfortune, Garet Williamson’s confidence only increased last week during the World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

The Bryant Paver Motorsports driver tackled the final event of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season for the first time of his career.

The action began last Wednesday with Williamson qualifying 12th quickest in his group. He placed seventh in a heat race and ninth in the Last Chance Showdown.

“It was a bigger learning curve,” he said. “It was a new track and was kind of different. Our results didn’t show, but I felt a lot better as the night went on. In the Last Chance Showdown I felt really comfortable.”

The team took a step forward on Friday when Williamson qualified third quickest in his group and placed second in a heat race to advance into the dash for the second time in his last three races with the World of Outlaws.

“We drew well and put a good lap down in qualifying,” he said. “We had a really good car. I didn’t want to push the issue with (Spencer) Bayston in the heat race and we did what we needed to do to make the dash. We were good in the dash, too. We fell back on the start, but got back up to fifth. The thing I’ve struggled with the most with those guys is the starts and trying to minimize the mistakes.”

A fifth-place result in the dash lined Williamson up on the inside of the third row for the main event. Unfortunately, Williamson narrowly clipped a car that wrecked in front of him on a restart and it sent him to the rear of the pack after the incident.

“It was a racing deal and is part of it,” he said. “Even after that when we restarted at the back we had really good lap times. It’s just really tough to pass there.”

Williamson gained a handful of positions to end 19th.

The season finale on Saturday ended early as a mechanical problem during a heat race cut the night short.

“That wasn’t how we wanted it to end, but we’ve been really good and it’s exciting to build on our 410 program,” Williamson said. “Running well with the World of Outlaws builds confidence in myself and our team that we can run with those guys. There’s a lot more than just showing up and running well. A lot of misfortunate things have happened when we were having good nights, which sucks, but we know we can put ourselves up there.”
