Inside Line Promotions – SWEDESBORO, N.J. (Nov. 2, 2022) – Joey Amantea capped the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars season with a podium performance last weekend.
The strong outing at Bridgeport Motorsports Park was Amantea’s 10th top five of the season with the series and locked him into a career-best fourth-place finish in the championship standings.
“I’m really happy to pull off a podium and finish in the top five in points,” he said. “I think we ended the year on a positive note.”
Amantea kicked off Sprintoberfest by learning about his new car on Friday during practice.
“With debuting this new car and motor on Friday we shook it down,” he said. “We had a brake issue all night and I couldn’t figure out exactly how hard I could run it. We got that fixed for Saturday’s qualifier. I got held up a little and made a couple of mistakes, but still made the feature inversion.”
Amantea advanced from sixth to fourth place in a qualifier on Saturday. That lined him up on the outside of the third row in the 40-lap feature on Sunday.
“We were really fast and had a shot to win,” he said. “It was the longest non-wing sprint car race I’d ever run. I got a little tired in all honesty. We ran 23 straight laps. The caution came out and my adrenaline slowed down so I was fighting that. But we managed to race with the leaders and contended.
“I was aiming to give it everything on the last lap going for a win, but the field was brake-checked on a restart. I was able to avoid the driver in front of me, but got hit from behind because people had nowhere to go. That damaged my car and I was lucky to hang on to third.”
Amantea ended the season with a career-best dozen top-five finishes.
