Inside Line Promotions – BEAVER DAM, Wis. (June 20, 2022) – David Gravel posted a third-place result at Beaver Dam Raceway for the fourth straight season last Friday during the opening round of the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial.

The Big Game Motorsports driver capped the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader by hustling from 13th to fifth on Saturday, earning the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

The two-race weekend began on Friday when Gravel qualified fifth quickest. A heat race win was followed by a runner-up result in the dash, which started Gravel on the outside of the front row in the A Main.

“We were able to qualify well and win the heat race and get a good draw for the dash,” he said. “We set ourselves up well. The track was uncharacteristic compared to how it normally is. It was very wet and fast. We didn’t get the jump on the second or third start like I did on the first one. I was third off turn two and that’s where we finished.”

Gravel’s third-place result was his first podium since April 9.

The event concluded on Saturday. Gravel timed in 10th quickest and finished fifth in a heat race to line up on the inside of the seventh row in the main event.

“On Saturday we buried ourselves a little by missing it in qualifying,” he said. “Then we had a bad heat race so we put something we were more accustomed to into the setup for the feature. We had a good car and kept battling and we ultimately ended fifth.

“I felt like we started out not very good the first three to five laps. From about Lap 6 or Lap 7 to Lap 12 the car was really good. There was a stage where the car got out of the track and so I grabbed some wing. Then the car was rolling pretty good and I felt we were closing in on those guys in front of us. Brad (Sweet) crashed and we moved to fourth. I got to (Logan) Schuchart’s left rear on the last corner of the last lap. It took the air off my wing and we lost a spot. But to get a top five was good.”

Gravel has a big week on tap with four straight nights of racing at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D. The Ace Ready Mix/Myrl & Roy’s presents the World of Outlaws is Wednesday before the Huset’s High Bank Nationals, which is capped by a $100,000 show, runs Thursday through Saturday.

“This is Tod’s biggest week of the year for the track,” he said. “It’s my birthday week. We had success there last year. There’s a lot of exciting things this week. We’re looking forward to going back there. Hopefully we can go there with the same speed we had last year and can get a couple of wins.”
