Inside Line Promotions – EASTABOGA, Ala. (March 9, 2026) – A rally in the closing laps kept Big Game Motorsports tied atop the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series championship standings last Friday.
David Gravel qualified 14th quickest and placed sixth in a heat race to open the Dega Duel at Talladega Short Track.
“It’s such a small track with not a lot of places to go,” he said. “You can’t afford to put yourself that far back in the field. I didn’t put together two good qualifying laps. I felt our car was capable of going faster in qualifying if I changed what I was doing. Then, in the heat race, starting fifth, I was hoping to get to third or at least gain a spot to fourth. I had a great start and got to fourth. Then I went into turn three, hit grease and got real tight. I lost that spot plus one to fall to sixth.
“Starting 17th in the feature and being pinned on the inside in the back, you’re fighting and clawing. I lost spots early. At the end of the race we were just as fast or faster than the leader the last few laps of the race. We just got going too late and 35 laps went by fast on that track.”
Gravel, who dropped as far back as 19th, charged to 13th before claiming two positions in the final two laps for an 11th-place outing. A last-lap pass to secure 11th place reclaimed a spot atop the World of Outlaws standings.
The Black Ice Brawl at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., on Saturday rained out.
The Cowtown Classic is next on the schedule. Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas, hosts the doubleheader this Friday and Saturday.
“Kennedale is a small track,” Gravel said. “We ran well there last year and put ourselves in position. The biggest thing is to qualify good and get on the front row of a heat race. That sets you up to make the dash. An extra shot on a race track (before the main event) is huge.”
Gravel finished second and fifth, respectively, at the track last year.
