Inside Line Promotions – LAWTON, Okla. (Sept. 2, 2015) – Cody Wampler recorded a runner-up result last Saturday during the season finale at Lawton Speedway.

It marked his fifth straight top-five finish and wrapped up fifth place in the champ sprints championship standings despite Wampler and car owner Randall Buzbee missing two races and having a myriad of mechanical problems to start the season.

“We had another solid night,” he said. “We just keep plugging away. It feels like we have a good handle on the car.”

Wampler advanced from sixth to fourth place during a heat race to lock himself into the main event.

“The track was pretty locked down,” he said. “We’ve had a little bit of a fuel issue when the track is heavy. I got by a couple of cars early and then pretty much stayed in fourth.”

That lined the team up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“We were really good early,” he said. “We were up to second by Lap 7 or 8. We shot up through there. Then we got a caution after that on maybe Lap 9. I thought I had something for the leader, but for 10 laps I basically couldn’t get anything going.

“I couldn’t really make up any ground. He’d get into lapped cars and I’d gain, then I’d struggle getting around them. Out in the open it was a dead heat. We were a little loose coming off turn two. In turns three and four we were pretty good, but we’d give it back up in turns one and two.”

Wampler’s second-place finish marked his seventh top five of the season.

He will take this weekend off before competing with the Oil Capital Racing Series on Sept. 12 at Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada, Okla.
