Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (July 23, 2014) – Channin Tankersley has a month off after last weekend’s ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader was washed out.

“It rained all weekend,” he said. “We got about 10 inches of rain in a day and a half. It was flooding in some places down here.”

Tankersley has the next three weekends off before the next ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader, which is Aug. 15 at Heart O’Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and Aug. 16 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.

“I have mixed emotions about having a month off,” he said. “I want to race, but on the other side you don’t have to worry about crashing and losing points.”

Tankersley holds a 76-point advantage in the championship standings and after last weekend’s events succumbed to weather, he only has five races remaining in the ASCS Gulf South Region schedule.

“I’m not going to say the focus changes a whole lot,” he said. “The biggest part about it is having a month off doesn’t help your seat time situation, but it does give you a break and a chance to catch up, get some rest and be fresh. As far as focus changing, we set out to do the same thing week in and week out. Our goal is to finish good, not tear anything up and win as much as we can.”

Tankersley noted he will likely relax during the break before things pick up in the final couple months of the season.

“I’m probably going to have a little relaxation time,” he said. “I’ll probably work out a little more since I have more free time. I’m going to enjoy the little time I have off.”
